So you’re used to using Instagram and Snapchat on your phone, but what if you want to login and use them on your laptop?
Mobile-focused platforms like Instagram and Snapchat certainly don’t make it easy, however, you’re in luck – here’s a way you can access these on your laptop, pc or mac.
For Instagram, you can use the Instagram website and sign in with your Instagram username, in order to view photos in your feed. But this really is a half-baked experience as you cannot post photos or videos from here. It’s merely just a ‘viewer’ as such.
Also those using windows can download the Instagram app from the Windows Store, however, you can’t post or edit photos in the same way you do on your phone… not so great right?
Instead to get the full mobile experience, you can download for free from BlueStacks, which is an Android emulator, which lets you run Instagram on your computer just like on your phone. It tricks the app by not letting it know that it’s being installed on a computer.
After you’ve installed BlueStacks, you have to sign in with your Google login and then click on the Google Play store icon to search for and download Instagram.
Now you can sign into the Instagram app and upload pictures or take pictures via your webcam and post them to your feed. You can also add filters, share photos and videos to your story and all the rest of the things you can do via the app on your phone.
How awesome is that? You’ll find you can use BlueStacks for a whole host of other apps like Tinder too.
Unlike with Instagram, there is no Snapchat viewer or windows app that at least lets you see your feeds like there is for Instagram. Mac users you’re also out of luck.
So like with Instagram above, you’re limited to using the BlueStacks Android emulator, which is free and easy to use (unless you’re a tech dinosaur).
After you’ve downloaded and installed the emulator, sign into your Google account and go to the Google Play store. Search for and download Snapchat and sign into your Snapchat account like you would on your phone. You only need to do this one time.
Now that you’ve got Snapchat in your emulator, you can view and send snaps if you have a webcam. You can also add filters to your snaps before sharing, send messages to friends and all the other things you can do from Snapchat on your phone.
If you don’t have a webcam and simply want to see your friend’s Snaps or Stories, click the Cancel button when a pop-up notifies you to connect a camera.
You can use Tinder in the emulator just like with Instagram and Snapchat.
Basically all we are doing is creating a virtual phone on your computer and the phone has android installed on it. So when you access Bluestacks it’s like accessing an android phone (because it actually is running android). This then means like on your phone you can install mobile apps and use them from the comfort of your laptop.
You can thank me later!
